Smart InfraOps → Automate Firewall Management & Dynamic Server Inventory

📌 Internship Positions Available: 2

Are you passionate about automation, security, and large-scale infrastructure management? This internship will give you hands-on experience in firewall automation, server inventory tracking, and real-time monitoring. You’ll work on a two-phase project aimed at enhancing security policies and improving infrastructure automation.

🔹 What You’ll Work On

You'll develop an integrated system that ensures consistent security policy enforcement across servers while maintaining an up-to-date, centralized infrastructure inventory.

Phase 1: Automated Firewall Configuration Management

• Develop an automated system where servers retrieve firewall configurations from a central repository (GitHub)
• Implement hierarchical policy management, allowing different rules based on server roles or groups
• Ensure security policies are version-controlled, auditable, and easily updated using GitOps principles
• Deploy a mechanism for servers to periodically pull the latest firewall configurations and apply changes automatically
• Implement logging and verification to track and ensure successful configuration updates

Expected Deliverables: ✔ A GitHub repository storing structured firewall configurations ✔ Automation scripts for retrieving and applying configurations on servers ✔ Comprehensive documentation on firewall rule structure and update procedures ✔ Security & audit logs to track changes and applications

Phase 2: Dynamic Server Inventory & Heartbeat Monitoring

• Develop an application to monitor server status using heartbeat signals
• Automatically register new servers into a centralized inventory
• Implement alerts for servers that stop heartbeating, with automated de-registration decisions
• Ensure the inventory acts as a single source of truth for automation tools like AWX (Ansible Tower)
• Provide an API or database backend for storing and retrieving inventory details
• Implement real-time alerts (Slack, email, webhooks) for inventory deviations

Expected Deliverables: ✔ A heartbeat monitoring system for real-time server status tracking ✔ A centralized inventory that dynamically updates as servers register/unregister ✔ AWX integration for automation-driven infrastructure management ✔ An alerting system for offline or missing servers ✔ Documentation on onboarding new servers and monitoring processes

🔹 What You Need to Succeed

Core Skills

• Basic Linux knowledge
• Understanding of network security & firewall principles
• Experience using Git
• Strong command of English
